Beal has recently contributed editorial leadership and/or assistance for over a dozen editions of the previously unpublished music of Johanna Beyer. She has also served as Book Reviews Editor for the Journal of the Society for American Music, and as a member of the AMS Committee for the Publication of American Music. She currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief for Music of the United States of America (MUSA). MUSA is a series of scholarly editions of music that aims to represent the depth and diversity of our nation’s heritage by publishing musical works of exemplary artistic quality and historical significance, targeting scholars, performers, students, and the general public.
