Jiyoon Jung is an ethnomusicologist specializing in South Korean contemporary musical culture. Her research interests include tracking omnifarious music cultural formations/transformations, especially in terms of the ways music is perceived in Korean society with issues of postcolonialism, nationalism, Orientalism, identity, cultural subjectivity, modernization and globalization. Jiyoon received her B.A. and M.A. in Musicology at Korea National University of Arts, Seoul. Her bachelor's thesis explored Globalization and Cultural Commodities: Displacement and Communication between Various Culture(2009), the dissertation for master's degree focuses on Changing Perspectives of Western Studies on Korean Music(2014). she is the winner of Young Scholar's Award in 2014 conferred by The Musicological Society of Korea.
