Professor Linda Burman-Hall and the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival are being honored this Saturday evening as they open the 40th Anniversary Season

at UCSC Music  Recital Hall. Saturday Feruary 8, 2014

Details on the event are at the Baroque Festival website,  SCBaroque.org. The concert itself features at 9 unusual instruments with unique repertoire. An instrument exhibit from Medieval/Renaissance lutes through Baroque lutes and guitar-family instruments to Ukuleles is being curated by Paul Hostetter, Will Spires and Ukulele Dick.

Faculty violinist Roy Malan opens the concert with Prokofiev's Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 94a with UCSC artist-in-residence Jeffrey LaDeur. Then William Coulter, John Weed, and Aria DiSalvio perform traditional and original airs and dances for Guitar, Violin, 'Cello.

Join UCSC advanced choral ensemble, the Chamber Singers, and conductor Nicole Paiement for an evening of French choral music through the ages.

The evening will include the American premiere of Philippe Hersant's delicate Poèmes Chinois, featuring Michael McGushin at the piano; the rarely performed Messe des Morts by Marc-Antoine Charpentier; and the colorful Le chant des oyseaux by Clément Janequin.

The evening brings together many faculty performers including sopranos Greta Feeney-Samuels, tenor Brian Staufenbiel, and continuo player Linda Burman-Hall, along with guest artists mezzo-soprano Michele Rivard, baritone Elliott Nguyen, and Amy Brodo, continuo/cello.

Master performers of the Korea National University of Arts present a performance of Korean traditional court music, folk music and dance, as well as new compositions by two of the Korea’s renowned composers, plus U.S. premieres of works by UCSC composers professor David Evan Jones and professor Hi Kyung Kim.

Faculty violinist Roy Malan and artist-in-residence Jeffrey LaDeur, piano, will perform a trio Dancing Sanjo, for gayageum, piano and violin.
 
Ensemble features Gayageum, Gemungo, Haegeum, Daegeum, Piri, Saeng-Hwang,  Ajaeng, Taepyungso, Samulnori and Dance.
