Audition for the UCSC Orchestra

The UC Santa Cruz Orchestra, conducted by Yair Samet, is open to all students, staff, and faculty as well as to community members.

- Seeking strings, woodwinds, and French horns especially

First Rehearsal: Tuesday, January 6, 6:00–8:00PM.

Concerts: February 27 and 28, 7:30 PM at UCSC

For your audition: Prepare one fast (tempo) solo piece to demonstrate technical ability. During the audition you will be asked to sight-read some short excerpts and to play a major scale up to four sharps or flats.

Returning members do not need to audition to join the orchestra.

In Winter, the Orchestra will present some favorite classics and feature as soloists both winners of the 2014 Concerto Competition.

Beethoven – Symphony No. 1 in C Major
J.C. Bach – Sinfonia in B-flat Major
J.C. Bach – Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in C Minor
with Sarah Lindmark, Cello
Ibert – Concertino Da Camera for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra
