Lisa is the Graduate Programs Coordinator and Graduate Adviser for the Music Department at UC Santa Cruz. She is also an ethnomusicologist and lecturer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her research interests include Baroque performance practice, music and tourism, and traditional music performance in Vietnam and the diaspora. Her dissertation, “The Vietnamese Đàn Bầu: A Cultural History of an Instrument in Diaspora” argues that the instrument is a site where state institutions, individual musicians, and audiences in Vietnam and the diaspora articulate myriad narratives of personal and national identities. Along with the đàn bầu, Lisa also enjoys playing the viola and viola da gamba. Outside of music, her interests include science fiction, hiking, and finding the perfect pierogi.
