Ph.D. Student

Giacomo Fiore was born in Genova, Italy, and has been studying in the US since 2003; he holds performance degrees in guitar from Belmont University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Broadly speaking, his research interests lie in music from the second post-war period, with a particular emphasis on issues of improvisation, performance, and interpretation, as well as the intersection of music and the other Arts. He is currently exploring the improvisatory and compositional aesthetics of Italian maverick Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988), one of the most mysterious and controversial figures of recent musical times.
