These are archives of photographs from recent performances
and rehearsals of Gamelan Swarasanti. You will get a better
idea of what the instruments look like, and how they are
typically arranged for a performance. Click on the links

'Gamelan from Bali and West Java' Open Rehearsal
This was an informal Open Rehearsal we did in November 2001
at the UCSC Recital Hall, with the UCSC West Javanese Gamelan.
The West Javanese instruments are at the left of the stage, and
the more ornate red and gold Balinese instruments from Gamelan
Swarasanti are at the right.

'Gamelan Explosion 2001'
This was a show we did in May 2001 at the UCSC Recital Hall.
The first few photos were taken during rehearsals, and the
final set (with the red costumes) were taken during the show.
The saxophonist at back is Karlton Heston, UCSC Professor of
Jazz, who wrote the jazz/gamelan fusion piece Game Chimes
for this performance.

Trip to Bali, 1997
This is an ongoing project to document a trip to Bali taken
by members of Gamelan Swarasanti in 1997. We saw a lot of
amazing music, dance, and art, and explored many aspects
of Bali in the three short weeks we were there.
