Declaring the Major / Minor

To Declare a major (B.A.)

Students enrolled in a music theory course (i.e., Music 13, 14, or 30) may declare a music major, by the following process:

1. Obtain "Proposed Study Plan-Declaration of Major/Minor" form from your college office.

2. Obtain the signature of your Academic Preceptor.

3. Obtain your applied instructor's signature on the "Primary Instrument Instruction Authorization" form (available in the Music Department Office - 244 Music Center).

4. Consult a music faculty adviser (a list of advisers can be obtained from the Department office), enter study plan on form, and obtain the adviser's signature.

5. Lastly, bring the forms to the Music Department Office for the undergraduate adviser's signature. B.M. students follow the above procedure after they have successfully auditioned into the B.M. program.

To Declare a minor (Western art music, jazz, or electronic music)

Students enrolled in a music theory course (i.e., Music 13, 14, or 30) may declare a minor in Western art music or in jazz, and students enrolled in Music 123~Electronic Sound Synthesis may declare a minor in electronic music, by the following process:

1. Obtain "Proposed Study Plan-Declaration of Major/Minor" form from your college office.

2. Obtain the signature of your Academic Preceptor.

3. Consult a music faculty adviser, enter study plan on form, and obtain the adviser's signature.

4. Lastly, bring the form to the Music Department Office to obtain the undergraduate adviser's signature. If you have already declared a major, you must also obtain a signature at the department office of the major.
