Latin American Ensembles (Music 4 A-B). The original Latin American Ensemble was created in 1981 by music professor John Schechter. In 1986 it became necessary to create a second group in order to accommodate the growing number of new students, and to provide the more experienced returning students with an opportunity to advance their skills.
The beginning to intermediate VOCES and the intermediate to advanced TAKI ÑAN resulted from this expansion. The Latin American Ensembles are dedicated to the study of music, instruments and performance practices from the Native American, Iberian American, and African American traditions of Latin America.
