Rita Zhang

DMA Student in Composition

Rita Zhang is currently based between San Francisco and Nanjing, China. As a pianist, educator, composer and producer, her works include music written for the concert stage, film, and commercials. Her music explores notions of music perceptions and intuitions. Her work is performed in the US and Asia, at venues including Centers for New Music in San Francisco, and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Rita has been mentored by Yang Zhou and Prof. Elinor Armer.

Research Interests: 

Film scoring, improvisation, tonal music, Asian music and impressionism
