Students must be in residence for a minimum of six quarters, and take at least two five-unit courses per quarter, plus the non-credit Current Issues Colloquium (Music 252) each quarter in residence (for a total of 60 units of coursework without dissertation).
Each entering student is assigned an adviser who should be consulted on all matters relating to the graduate program. At the beginning of the first quarter of enrollment, the student must meet with the adviser and complete a course plan for fulfillment of requirements, which must be submitted to the department office. In some instances, a student may wish to change advisers if he/she is working with a different faculty member on the dissertation. If so, the student should confer with the initial adviser about the change and also notify Zack Myers (Graduate Program Coordinator, mga.mus@ucsc.edu) about the new adviser.
Students have full Catalog rights; i.e. no graduate student will be expected to satisfy a degree requirement that is not explicitly presented in the General Catalog in effect upon her/his entrance to the program.
