Huascar Garcia

PhD Candidate in Cross-Cultural Musicology

I arrived in Santa Cruz from Bogotá where I taught courses in music appreciation, musical cultures of the world, and “common practice” harmony, among others. My current research interest is in the politics of representation involved in the making of non-Colombian styles of cumbia. Related topics that take up most of my reading time and mental energy are: subaltern thought, subject formation and nation, technologies of meaning production, and how these relate to music.
