Sarang Kim

D.M.A. Student

Sarang Kim (b.1986) is a composer, piano accompanist, and Korean percussionist. She is currently a DMA student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and graduated with a Masters of Music in Composition and Theory from Ewha Women's University, Korea, in 2013. Her musical interests range from Euro-American contemporary music to music of Northeastern Asia, including China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. As a young composer and Korean percussionist, Sarang is investigating a creative, cross-cultural approach to timbre, and exploring other syntheses of East and West. Her music is influenced by Musical Nationalism in the 19 and 20th century, and by diverse blends of folk and court musics in Korea, China and Japan.
