Faculty Academic Advising

Upon admission, each graduate student will be assigned a faculty member as their primary faculty advisor. The student will meet with the advisor at the start of Fall quarter to go over coursework, required milestones, and research interests. The faculty advisor may also assist the student with preparation for the Qualifying Exams, including recommending QE committee members appropriate to the student’s research interests.

In preparation for the QE’s, the student will identify a dissertation advisor and dissertation reading committee, who will advise the student on their dissertation research and writing.

At any time, the student may request a different faculty member to serve as either the primary advisor or the dissertation advisor, pending approval from the new faculty advisor.
