A short opera written for children, Chip and his Dog illustrates the healing power of friendship. Young Chip is a poor instrument maker who has been down on his luck. Nearly starving, he is overjoyed when the Royal Messenger shows up at his shop, but is torn when he is ordered to sell his beloved, brilliant dog to the selfish Princess. Convinced that their only chance for survival is to send his dog to the palace, Chip tearfully concedes. He immediately realizes that he cannot live without his best friend, and runs off to the palace to rescue him, and in turn, the entire kingdom.
